Yesterday was pretty good since I was able to go as press (actually Video, as you can see in the picture) to the Marvin Festival. A festival a popular magazine in Mexico City has been making for 3 years now.

I’ve seen Holy Fuck, the Boxer Rebellion and now Foxygen and Reptile Youth among other Mexican and Latinamerican bands thanks to them.

I didn’t have a Total Access pass, never the less, I got myself into the shows I wanted to see such as Foxygen and Reptile Youth, so that was cool.

Sam and Justin were watching their opening band Martin Thulin and a fan recognized them when I promptly took out my Polaroid with trembling hands. This time I didn’t remind myself that they are normal people like me, just super cool and fantastic musicians, to not get nervous… Sam is really charming! And Justin a quiet person. I asked them if I could take a picture of them and they agreed happily. It’s amazing to see how Sam changes when he’s off stage and on.

When Martin Thulin was almost over Shaun came out and I tapped him on the shoulder to meet him. He was happy as well to have his picture taken, and told me they had gone downtown in the morning and thought it was a really beautiful and unique place, not like anything they’ve seen before (of course, it’s Mexico, c’mon!), that they have travelled all around Europe and Canada and nothing resembled it!
The show was crazy and really good. Sam jumped to the crowd a few times and danced with us a couple more. Though I never knew why Elizabeth wasn’t with them. By the end of it I met Jonathan, so kind and open and his photo is my favourite (:

I rode as fast as I could to the other venue (because it’s not your typical festival in just one place, it’s in different venues at the same time -I’m thinking like SXSW, though I’ve never been to one-) to catch Reptile Youth. I did it! I got in! So I squeezed myself into the crowd to get a nice place to take pictures and enjoy their show. Esben’s crazy, with a height of maybe 1.92 mt jumping on stage with such a low roof and crowd surfing. They know how to put up a show. Mads was wearing really tiny shorts. And the bass player got electrocuted with his pedals almost near the end.

I waited a bit and told one of the guys if I could take a picture of him and Esben, he said: Sure, sure! And told security to let me into their “dressing room”. Wow, that has never happened to me before and it felt great! I noticed they feed them sandwiches, see the picture above, and beer. Do they even like ham?

Took two pictures because Mads was missing and the guy that got electrocuted. I think they tought I was from a magazine or something, or who knows. But when I was telling Esben what a great show they gave he holded my hand, as if he was thanking me for the comments. Also a good person (:

Before taking the second picture a lady came in asking me who I was, what media I belonged to and what I was doing there. Errr, yeah: Stephanie, ninebox, take pictures. It was crazy and pretty exciting.

I was really tired after this so I just went to relax to a park nearby where mapping on a forum was happening.

It was a damn good day concentrating on what I love, music and photography, not minding school and homeworks. I’d like this for a long time.
